Date Difference Calculator
Pick two dates and get the exact days, weeks, months or years between them.
How it works
The date difference calculator finds the gap between a start date and an end date by counting the exact number of midnights between them. Enter 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026 and it reports 365 days (366 across a leap year). It can also express that gap in weeks, calendar months, or whole years with leftover months and days.
Two options change the count. "Include both start and end dates" adds one day, which is useful when you are counting spans that include both ends (like the number of nights of a hotel stay). "Skip weekends" removes Saturdays and Sundays, giving a business-day style count even on the plain difference tool. Leap years are handled automatically because the engine works from real calendar dates, not a fixed days-per-year assumption.
Examples
Example: 1 Jan 2025 to 1 Jan 2026
The calculator shows 365 days (about 52.1 weeks). Tick "include both dates" and it becomes 366 days.
Example: 1 Mar 2024 to 1 Mar 2025
Because 2024 is a leap year, the span is 366 days — the extra 29 February is counted automatically.
Example: a school term, 1 Sept to 15 Dec
For the 2026 autumn term the span is about 105 days (roughly 15 weeks). Tick "include both dates" if the first and last day both count as school days.
Example: a single weekend
From Saturday 8 August 2026 to Monday 10 August 2026 is 2 days exclusive, or 3 days inclusive if you count both the start and end day.
FAQ
Days between two dates inclusive vs exclusive?
Exclusive counts only the midnights between the two dates (so 1 Jan to 2 Jan = 1 day). Inclusive adds one day to include both endpoints (1 Jan to 2 Jan = 2 days). Use inclusive when both the start and end day should be counted, such as rental or booking spans.
Does a leap year affect the date difference?
Yes, and it is handled for you. The engine reads real calendar dates, so the extra day on 29 February is included in any span that crosses it. You never need to add or subtract a day manually.
How do I count months and years between dates?
The tool reports the gap in whole years, leftover months and leftover days (calendar style), as well as the raw day or week count. Use the calendar breakdown when you need to say "2 years and 3 months" rather than a single number of days.
