Countdown Calculator

Count down days, hours, weeks until a future date, or count days since a past date.

How it works

The countdown calculator works in two directions. In "until" mode you enter a future date and it tells you how many days (and, for near dates, hours) remain until then — useful for holidays, deadlines or events. In "since" mode you enter a past date and it tells you how many days have already passed, answering "how many days since".

Both modes count exact midnights from today, so the number updates naturally as the current day changes. If the target date is in the past while in "until" mode, the tool simply reports that the date has passed and shows how many days ago it was, so you never get a confusing negative.

For dates only a few days away, the tool also shows the remaining hours, because a countdown feels different when the event is hours rather than months off. The hours figure updates through the current day, so it ticks down as time passes and the days number drops by one at each midnight.

Examples

Example: until 25 December 2026

From 11 August 2026 the calculator shows roughly 136 days until Christmas, counting each midnight between now and the 25th.

Example: since 1 January 2026

In "since" mode the same start date returns about 223 days since the beginning of the year.

Example: until your next birthday

Switch to "until" mode and enter your birth month and day for next year; the tool shows the days until that date and the weekday it falls on, handy for planning a celebration.

Example: until end of the year

From 11 August 2026 to 31 December 2026 is about 142 days, a quick way to see how much of the year remains.

FAQ

How many days until [a date]?

Switch to "until" mode and enter the target date. The tool counts the midnights from today to that date and shows the remaining days (plus hours when the date is close). It works for any future date, not just named holidays.

How many days since [a date]?

Switch to "since" mode and enter a past date. The tool counts the midnights from that date to today and shows how many days have passed since it.

Why does it say the date has passed?

In "until" mode, if the target date is already in the past the tool reports that it has passed and shows how many days ago, instead of a confusing negative number. Switch to "since" mode to count the days that have actually elapsed.
